I feel these are an amazing tool to have and use if you’re not successful with the Heimlich at the onset of a chocking incident. I’ve had to use the Heimlich on my wife on two separate occasions, and thankfully both time I was able to dislodge the food item. The first time it happened, my two young ( 8 and 12 years old at the time) daughters witnessed it and afterwards i showed and taught them the technique. I thought they didn’t pay much attention at the time or retained anything I said or demonstrated, but several weeks later, while eating lunch, my youngest daughter choked on a piece of chicken and my oldest daughter did the Heimlich on her. After several thrust she was able to dislodge the chicken. She was recognized by our community during a board meeting and received an award and plaque. Being a law enforcement officer I’ve had to do the Heimlich several times while on the job, but was always concerned what if that wasn’t enough, what would I do. Fast forward, we found and researched Lifevac and we purchased Lifevac kits for each of our four vehicles, our home, and my job. We now have peace of mind that we have another option we can turn to and use immediately before or after the Heimlich. The Lifevac is well built, durable, and reasonably priced. Highly recommend you purchase several to have nearby should the time come, God forbid, you are faced with a chocking victim. Thank you all very much! This product saved my daughter’s life about two months ago. We keep one kit in the dining room, at grandma’s house and in the cars. We were feeding my daughter when she had a seizure, of course, with a mouth full of food. She eats puréed foods, so it’s not like I could have got past her teeth with my finger to pull a chunk of food out. Thank God, the kit was right there. It took a couple seconds to open it up and put it together and it was in action. The device effectively pulled all the food out of her mouth and throat, and she was able to start breathing again.

I donated three LifeVac Kits to three different parochial schools. As a choking victim many years ago, I nearly died. Here is my short story:
I recall being in 2nd grade at the time (~1959, or so….long before the Heimlich and seat belts were invented. I was standing in the rear seat area of our ’51 DeSoto returning home at night with my father and sister from a visit to the local delicatessen where my dad had bought himself a pack of cigarettes and some penny candy for us. My dad was explaining to my sister and I how the speedometer worked and how the tenths of a mile were rolling over on the odometer when I suddenly swallowed the “fireball” I had been enjoying and it went deep into my windpipe. My dad pulled the car over and reached into my throat with 2 fingers to grab the obstruction that was deep in my throat. I don’t know how he did it, but he dislodged it and pulled it out, but it then again slipped from his fingers and went right back down to the same spot. Meanwhile my sister started running down the (country) road to a distant house for help. My dad reached in again and this time got it out. When we got home, he never told my mother about it because she would have been upset beyond belief.
Hopefully, the kits that I donated will never be needed. But, if they are ever needed, hopefully the adults in attendance will have the presence of mind to not panic but use the LifeVac to save a life. I think every school should be mandated to have these in every school cafeteria throughout this country. Consider donating a kit to your local school(s), especially the parochial schools that have meager budgets.

In my training at a Correctional Facility we (staff) had training in a tower by ourselves choking! your the only one in a tower until your relief comes 8 hours later. One alarm is to knock the phone off the receiver. Your company should offer a training or sell your product to the state.

I do have one comment. though, is it possible that your LifeVac device could have a small adjustment that would reverse the flow after extracting the obstruction and convert it to a positive flow into the victim? Such as mouth to mouth resuscitation but mechanical force.
About fifty years ago, right after I was married, I was on an international flight when a passenger seemed to pass out and I was asked to see to him. I applied bottled Oxygen and chest compressions. No result and the passenger died. About a month later I read about the new procedure, the Hemlic (sp) Maneuver. As the copilot, I was named along with Pan Am in a suite for performing a wrong diagnosis. Luckily it was thrown out during the trial.
