Description

In a choking emergency, fast and confident action can save a life. The A3 Basic Life Saving Poster provides clear, step-by-step guidance on standard choking first aid procedures, followed by instructions on when and how to use LifeVac® if the airway remains obstructed.

Designed for visibility and simplicity, this poster supports staff, carers, and first responders by reinforcing recognised Basic Life Support (BLS) protocol before introducing LifeVac® as a secondary measure when traditional methods have been unsuccessful.

The LifeVac® instructions are presented in three simple steps:

Place. Push. Pull.

The poster clearly explains at what point LifeVac® should be used, when first aid fails or cannot be performed.

Ideal for schools, nurseries, workplaces, restaurants, care homes, and communal environments, the A3 format ensures the guidance is easy to read and accessible during high-pressure situations.

This poster does not replace first aid training but acts as a visible reminder of correct choking protocol and device usage, helping teams respond quickly and confidently.

How To Use The Device

LifeVac® is designed for use after basic choking first aid (like back blows and abdominal thrusts) has failed:

  1. Attach to Device: Firmly push and twist the correct sized mask onto the LifeVac® base.
  2. Position the Mask: Place the top of the mask over the bridge of the nose and the bottom of the mask between bottom lip and chin for a secure seal.
  3. Hold Securely: With your non dominant hand, firmly hold the mask in place, ensuring the mouth is open.
  4. Create Suction: Using the handle, depress the bellows with your dominant hand and then pull the handle back swiftly and firmly to generate suction to remove the obstruction. Hold the mask firmly in place throughout the entire process.
  5. Repeat if Needed: Continue until the airway is clear or help arrives.

This method works if the casualty is standing, sitting, or lying down. For a guided visual demonstration, check out the official LifeVac® video here.

Note: Always follow established first aid protocols first, and call emergency services immediately in a choking emergency.
