Her mother recalls the incident:

“My toddler gave my baby a piece of food that he found. I used my previous BLS/CPR training to do proper back blows with her on my forearm with her head tilted to open the airways and tried for a minute to dislodge the food. When I realised that was not working, I rushed to the kitchen to retrieve my LifeVac. She went right back to normal after we stopped her from choking. In fact, she wanted more food afterwards ha-ha. The only thing I’ve noticed, and sort of expected, is that the poor girl has got a sore throat. I’m not sure what type of food it was, as my toddler found a piece of dried food and gave it to her when she was in her swing. It sort of looked like dried bread, and it was the size of my thumbnail.

I just wanted to say thank you, as without the LifeVac my daughter may not be here today. We live in what’s called “The North Valleys” which means it’s usually a 10–15-minute wait for an ambulance minimum. She wouldn’t have made it that long, and I’m so grateful that we had the LifeVac. Crazily enough, it was a gift from my grandfather that we had just received just a few days beforehand. I’ve been telling all my other friends and family that they need to get one.
