On February 13th, 2025 a 3-year-old girl choked on a grape causing a complete airway obstruction. First aid choking protocol was followed. LifeVac successfully dislodged the food on the second application!
The child’s father described the incident as follows:
“We thought we would never need to use it but we’re SO happy we had it when we did. The Abdominal Thrust was performed but was not successful. My daughter was still sitting in her chair so I decided to push it up against the wall so it wouldn’t tip backwards when I applied the mask (not sure if this was the right thing to do but I didn’t want her to aspirate/vomit or anything when I used the LifeVac). It was very easy to get a good seal and after two attempts it cleared her airway and she let out a massive scream which brought so much happiness to us! My wife was on the phone with the EMS and the medics did still come by to check her out. My daughter is doing amazing now, no other complications. She is officially only eating cut grapes from here on out!
